I think you can spend a lot or very little on restoring a vintage clawfoot. I picked mine up at an antique shop for $65. We just sanded the outside, applies spray primer, and used appliance paint out of a spray can for the final finish. For the feet, we stripped the old paint, got a local jewelry company to toss them in their indstrial polishers and (would you believe) the cast iron came out shiny. I just coated them with polyurethane to keep them from rusting and that was it. I think the whole project, including the cost of the tub, was under $150.
